edith machinist.

vintage has been on my mind lately. everytime i find myself wandering into a store like saks or club monaco, i want to kick myself for buying something that most likely lacks originality. sure the clothes i find there are cute but now that it's getting nicer out, i'm more inclined to traipse around and hunt for the cool stuff. the extra leg work paid off this past weekend when i wandered into edith machinist, an amazing vintage boutique in the lower east side. boots and shoes galore, purses, and racks of dresses, sorted by color. i wanted to buy everything but settled on a cornflower blue lace/eyelet minidress. i'm definitely not doing this dress justice with my description but i can tell you that i cannot wait to break it out this spring.

a friend of mine made reservations for a group of us at essex restaurant on st. patty's day. the night before was a haze of beer, wine, and shots so i wasn't feeling completely up to par for brunch. fortunately, dragging myself out of bed for essex was well worth it. $16 got us more spicy bloody mary's than even i could drink and a del.icio.us mexican mazto brei that involved scrambled eggs, cheese, tortillas, black beans, and avocado. 'twas the perfect hangover cure. mmmm!!! but the feast didn't stop there. on to economy candy...

my teeth are rotting just thinking about this place. i can't believe it's taken me this long to find a legit candy store! i ended up spending almost $20 on junk food there... :-P candy cigarettes that really puff, teaberry gum, candy necklaces, gumballs, pop rocks, blow pops without the stick, etc. ohh, and of course, kinder bueno. nostalgia. these things are so damn good. right up there with nutella. i also got some kinder suprise eggs. yummm.

Although he doesn't get as much hype as Christian Louboutin or Manolo Blahnik, I absolutely adore Bruno Frisoni. His shoes are ridiculously high and always fun.

I look forward to seeing 3.1 Phillip Lim's Spring 2007 collection in stores in the upcoming months. I always find myself coveting his pieces when I see them in magazines or on TV without even realizing that he is the designer. One of the first times I saw his clothes was when Kate Hudson wore a dress on Letterman in July 2006. I'm very much into the easy dress look these days and most of his collection is perfect in terms of this. The color palette is also fantastic - the blue and green jewel tones are absolutely gorgeous.

I want: Part Deux. I was strolling through Barney's Co-op and happened upon this leather bolero. I'd seen it in magazines before but I loved it even more in person. It's official name is the Lloyd Bolero by Mike & Chris. All of their stuff is fantastic and I may have to splurge on either this or a leather hoodie before they are all gone... On a separate note, I'm trying to think of the name of a designer who makes this black leather handbag with tiny skulls on the end of its drawstrings. It can also be found at Barney's.
